Creole
Exhibition – producer & designer
Museum of Ethnography, Stockholm
2017–2022
Creole was a long-term exhibition at the Museum of Ethnography exploring the emergence of Creole cultures as a direct result of European colonisation of the Caribbean. The exhibition aimed to create space for a more nuanced historiography and for perspectives often absent from dominant historical narratives.
The exhibition highlighted cultural exchange, resistance, survival, and creativity within colonial contexts. By presenting “new” — frequently overlooked — perspectives on historical events and their consequences, Creole challenged conventional understandings of history and heritage.
In parallel with the exhibition, Yanina developed a dedicated school program that became highly booked. The program addressed a clear gap in existing educational material, as few exhibitions or curricula covered this “forgotten” history. Together, the exhibition and school program functioned as an important platform for education, dialogue, and critical reflection.
